Charity Horse Ride
We attempting to ride from DALBY to ALICE SPRINGS …
In early 2014 Break the Cycle Charity is setting off on a 3072km Horse-ride from Dalby to Alice Springs via Mt Isa.
This will coincide with Healthy Lifestyle school visits run by Aboriginal dual-international Andrew Walker and the Break the Cycle team. We are hoping for the involvement of up to 82 schools where we will bring awareness to the issues of depression, self-abuse, addictions and suicide prevention (Highschools) and acceptence and anti-bullying (primary).
Suicide was double the road toll in Australia last year and depression is an un-diagnosed factor. These seem to be taboo subjects. Along with our school visits we will deliver our ‘Rise Above’ Program Workbooks. This life-coaching and mentoring program equips our youth with the tools and techniques to ‘rise above’ their circumstances, to ‘rise above’ their past and to ‘rise above’ their feelings.
It is a solution based program giving the life skills and equiping them to love themselves. We believe involvement with horses are a key factor with people struggling with life as it takes their mind off themselves. Our long-term goal is to have a working farm where families can come and be involved. We hope this involvement coupled with our programs help to break the cycle of self abuse, addictions and rself-harm and encourage self-love, acceptance and lifelong success.
The ride will consist of Leona bringing the horses to the schools so the kids can interact with them. Then she will head off to our next destination and Andrew and the team will run the Healthy lifestyle Days with games and talks.
